Uganda Project

In collaboration with ANCI, (National Association of Italian Rabbit Farmers), the NGO ANAWIM AFRICA, and the Rotary Club of Lucera, a project has been launched in the district of Adjumani, in northern Uganda, to support local communities, aimed at promoting food self-sufficiency, economic development and environmental sustainability through the promotion of Italian rabbit farming.

Adjumani is a border region with South Sudan, characterized by a high presence of refugees and vulnerable populations. It is home to numerous humanitarian settlements where families receive small plots of land to build homes and practice subsistence agriculture. In this context, the project represents a concrete opportunity to strengthen food security and create new local production networks.

In January 2025, the intervention involved the supply and installation of a modular structure for rabbit farming (minitunnel), a compact and functional structure, installed on a simple concrete platform equipped with multifunctional cages, drinking systems, air conditioning, lighting and cleaning system. The supply was made on a non-profit basis, as a gesture of generosity aimed at supporting the project.
Designed for a sustainable weekly production, 20–24 rabbits for slaughter, the facility is perfectly suited to the logistical and environmental needs of the area.

To complete, an initial cycle of technical training was carried out for local breeders, with the start of livestock farming based on the use of food resources available locally – such as fodder, hay and cereals – reducing the use of industrial feed.
